We keep our premises clean and do our best to make sure you’ll have a pleasant stay with us. Hostel Hermanni features a shared lounge and two well-equipped kitchens for the use of our customers. In addition, there are three bicycles available for free use by our customers.
History of Haapaniemi
In the early 1900s, Haapaniemi was a significant workers’ district. Herman Saasatamoinen’s factory, producing spools of thread, had a major role to play in the development of the city. Saastamoinen’s factory, which construction began in the year 1899, became the largest producer of spools of thread before the World War 1. With the help of contacts in Saint-Petersburg and Britain, the goods were sent all around the world. In the vicinity of factory were built a mill and other buildings, making Haapaniemi the largest industrial hub of the city.
Nowadays Haapaniemi, including Hostel Hermanni’s charming building, is a modern neighbourhood with glimpses of the area’s past. To this day, memorial of Saastamoinen stands in the same Herman’s square.
